Nixalite of America Inc designs and manufactures the Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes in the USA with materials processed in the USA. These flexible bird spike strips deter pigeons and seagulls on all types of architectural surfaces. Not intended for larger or smaller bird species or for severe infestations of any bird. Effective installations help eliminate the high costs of cleaning and maintenance caused by pest birds and their unsanitary habits, while also protecting people from the health risks associated with bird waste.
Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes provide all stainless-steel construction at a cost that is comparable or lower than plastic or composite spikes.

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 - SYSTEM DESCRIPTION:
A.   Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes:
A physical bird spike deterrent designed to prevent pigeons and seagulls from landing on all types of architectural surfaces. Not intended for larger or smaller bird species or for moderate to severe infestations of any bird. Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes have no equal. No substitutions allowed.
B.   Pigeon Spike Stainless Fastening:
Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes can be fastened to all types of installation surface materials with Nixalite’s optional Bird Spike Mounting Hardware, glue clips and adhesive or just adhesive. All mounting hardware, tools and accessories are purchased separately.
C.   Surface Cleaning System: disinfectants and deodorizers to neutralize potentially hazardous bird and/or animal wastes and prepare the surface for installation.
1.2 - QUALITY ASSURANCE
A.  Obtain all of the manufacturers planning guides, estimating worksheets and installation instructions for the Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes. Installer to be completely familiar with the manufacturer supplied installation procedures for the Pigeon Spike Stainless Economy Bird Spikes.
B.  Installer must obtain and record accurate and complete dimensions for each surface specified for Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike installation. Surface dimensions are what drive bird spike installation quantities.
C.  Specified bird spikes must be Made in the USA from materials processed in the USA. No substitutions allowed.
D.  Contractor to provide the Nixalite Certificate of Authenticity issued by Nixalite of America Inc after ordering the Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes. This provides information that will be required to receive project close out documentation.
1.3 - SUBMITTALS
A.  Manufacturers planning and estimating literature including for the Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes model or models.
B.  Sample of specified Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike - not less than 2” (5.1cm) in length.
C.  (If ColorCoat finish) Sample of specified color.
1.4 – STORAGE & HANDLING
A.   Provide storage and/or protection to keep Pigeon Spike Stainless bird spike shipping boxes dry, clean and undamaged. Do not stack or place other packaging or objects on the Pigeon Spike Stainless shipping boxes.
B.   Keep Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike and optional Nixalite Bird Spike Mounting Hardware in original packaging until needed for installation.

2.2 – PIGEON SPIKE STAINLESS BIRD SPIKES
A.   Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes: All stainless-steel wire and base strip spikes that are made in the USA from materials processed in the USA.
Wires: Stainless steel, 0.041” (1 mm) diameter, full-hard spring temper.
Base Strip: Stainless steel, 0.25” wide x 0.02” thick (6.3 mm x 0.5 mm), full anneal for flexibility, easy strip cutting and surface shape memory.
B.   Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike Strip Lengths: Available in 24” (61.0 cm) and 48” (122.0 cm) strip lengths.
C.   Warranties:
All Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike Strips have a 10-year limited product warranty.
D.   Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike Strip Dimensions: 4” high (10.2 cm), 6” wide (15.2 cm), No less than 24 wire points per foot. Full 180-degree wire coverage. For pigeons and seagulls on all types of surfaces. Not intended for larger or smaller bird species or for moderate to severe infestations of any bird.
E.    Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike Soft Tip Option: Available for Pigeon Spike Stainless model. This option replaces the pointed wire tips with flattened wire tips. Use only where frequent human contact is possible (or expected) and where pigeon and seagull populations are at light to nuisance level.
F.   Finish: Natural stainless-steel finish or manufacturers ColorCoat finish.
G.  ColorCoat: standard colors are black, white, gray, tan, brown and bronze. Choose standard color that best suits application. Custom colors available. For custom color: installer must contact manufacturer for color matching procedures.
2.3 – NIXALITE BIRD SPIKE MOUNTING HARDWARE
A.  Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes can be fastened with Nixalite’s optional (sold separately) Bird Spike Mounting Hardware, Glue Clips and Adhesive or just adhesive.
B.  If using the Bird Spike Mounting Hardware choose the hardware assemblies that best suit your installation surface materials. All hardware is made of either stainless steel or non-corrosive materials.

C.  Apply adhesive or sealant in all holes that penetrate the installation surface. After mounting hardware is installed, apply additional adhesive or sealant over the heads of the sheet metal screws and/or the drive screws. Do not get adhesive or sealant in the hook end of the mounting clips.
D.  Glue Clips & Adhesive;
If surface conditions do not allow for the use of the supplied Bird Spike Mounting Hardware, use the Glue Clip and Adhesive installation method. Follow the Glue Clip installation instructions available from the manufacturer.
2.4 – SURFACE SANITIZING AND DEODORIZING
A.  Nixalite of America Inc offers several different broad spectrum surface sanitizers and deodorizers to help protect your people from the hazards of pest bird waste. Contact Nixalite for recommendations on the proper sanitizing product for your application.
B.  Safety Equipment: Nixalite offers personal protection equipment (PPE) to protect personnel from the hazards related to pest bird and animal waste materials. Contact Nixalite for details.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 - INSPECTION
A.  Visually inspect all installation surfaces. Make sure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from debris or other conditions that could impede the workflow of this section. All surfaces must be sanitized and deodorized before Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike installation.
B.  Notify architect of detrimental conditions. Do not proceed until these conditions have been corrected.
3.2 - PREPARATION
A.  Field Measurements: Verify the dimensions for each surface specified for Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike installation. Use manufacturers Planning and Estimate guidelines to verify sufficient quantities of bird spike strips will be installed on each surface specified for bird control.
B.  Make sure all installation surface finishing requirements have been accomplished before installing Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes. Bird spikes are to be the last items installed on each specified surface. Do not apply any surface coating or treatment (paint, sealer, etc.) over the installed spikes or mounting hardware.
C.  Remove or relocate all plants, foliage or foreign objects that overhang the installation surfaces. Note all conditions that could adversely affect the installation and performance of the Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spike installation.
3.3 – SURFACE CLEANING
A.  All surfaces to be clean, dry and free of obstructions before the Pigeon Spike Stainless Economy Bird Spikes are installed.
B.  If Bird Waste Is Present:
Treat, neutralize and safely remove all bird waste from installation surfaces. Installer must follow all municipal, state and federal regulations regarding the proper removal and disposal of bird droppings and waste materials such as nests and dead birds.
C.  Use Nixalite’s surface cleaning products to neutralize any bird droppings, nests and related waste materials that may be present. Strictly follow treatment instructions provided with Nixalite’s surface cleaning products.
D.  Use Nixalite cleaning products to help prevent disease transmittal when working around surfaces contaminated with bird droppings.
3.4 - INSTALLATION
A.  Make sure the installation surfaces are clean, dry and free of any debris or obstructions.
B.  Install specified Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes in strict accordance with manufacturer’s spacing and installation guidelines. Protect all surfaces where pest birds can land, roost and nest.
C.  Install Pigeon Spike Stainless bird spikes so they will protect the entire surface, not just the outside edges. No gaps are allowed in the bird spike strip coverage. Cut the bird spike strips where necessary to fit the surface properly.
D.  Wires of Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes must overhang or be flush to the outside edges of each surface. The Pigeon Spike Stainless bird spike base strip must extend over the ends of each surface by at least 1/2” (1.2 cm).
E.   Fasten Pigeon Spike Stainless bird spikes to the surface with the optional Nixalite Bird Spike mounting hardware as recommended by the manufacturer. Follow the hardware spacing guidelines and installation procedures supplied by manufacturer.
3.5 – ADJUSTMENTS / CLEANING
A.  Remove debris and waste materials from project site. Inspect finished installation. Make any adjustments needed to conform to Nixalite’s Pigeon Spike Stainless bird spikes spacing and installation guidelines.
B.  The Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes are a physical and passive barrier. They rely on the system of pointed stainless steel wires to deter pest birds and nuisance animals from getting to the surfaces on which they are installed. Periodic inspections are recommended to keep the bird spike strips in good condition.
3.6 – POST INSTALL
A.  Contractor to provide the Nixalite Certificate of Authenticity issued by Nixalite of America Inc after ordering the Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes. This provides information that will be required to receive project close out documentation.
B.  Contractor to provide any manufacturer post installation maintenance documentation for the Pigeon Spike Stainless Bird Spikes.
