Make sure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from debris or other conditions that could impede the workflow of this section. B. Notify architect of detrimental conditions. Do not proceed until these conditions have been corrected. 3.2 - PREPARATION A. Field Measurements: Verify dimensions of each installation surface. Use ShockTape installation instructions to make sure you have sufficient quantity of ShockTape to properly protect the specified surfaces. B. Make sure all installation surface finishing requirements have been accomplished before installing ShockTape Electric Bird Deterrent System. DO NOT apply any surface coating or treatment (paint, sealer, etc.) over the installed ShockTape system. C. Remove or repair objects that may damage the ShockTape system after installation such as tree branches and loose items on the building. D. Surfaces must be 45°F (7°C) minimum at instance of contact; dust free and dry. Adhesion to substrates should be thoroughly evaluated under actual conditions. Unsealed concrete and wood surfaces must be unified with clear shellac, paint or other appropriate coating or sealer. 3.3 - SURFACE CLEANING A. All surfaces to be clean, dry and free of obstructions before bird control is installed. B. IF BIRD WASTE IS PRESENT: Treat, neutralize and safely remove all bird waste from installation surfaces. Installer must follow all city, state and federal regulations regarding the proper removal and disposal of bird droppings. C. Use Nixalite's surface cleaning products to neutralize any bird droppings, nests and related waste materials that may be present. Allow all surfaces to air dry completely, and then reapply to sanitize and deodorize the surface before proceeding. Strictly follow treatment instructions provided with Nixalite's surface cleaning products. D. Use Nixalite anti-bacterial personal protection products to help prevent disease transmittal when working around surfaces contaminated with bird droppings. 3.4 - INSTALLATION A. Protect all surfaces. Install the ShockTape system as recommended by the installation instructions that are supplied by the manufacturer. ShockTape is a landing deterrent, it is not a barrier. B. ShockTape to follow the shapes and contours of the architecture and lay in a straight line. The center line of the tape must be aligned to the top center line of pipes and sharp angled objects. Uneven installation may give the birds landing opportunities and create an unsightly appearance. C. ShockTape must fully extend into each corner to prevent potential landing areas. D. Defining bird 'pressures': Low Pressure - Just a few birds, occasional and brief landings, intermittent bird presence. "Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live here." High Pressure - Many birds that land frequently and stay most or all of the day. Birds maintain a constant presence. "My nest was here! I was born here! I will return to this place year after year!" E. ShockTape spacing for LARGE BIRDS; ALWAYS measure spacing from the center of the ShockTape rows. Low Pressure - Surfaces up to 8" wide, install one row of ShockTape 2" (5.1cm) away from the outside edge. For 8" and wider, install additional rows of ShockTape. High Pressure - Surfaces up to 7" wide install one row of ShockTape 2" (5.1cm) away from the outside edge. For 7" and wider, install additional rows of ShockTape. F. ShockTape spacing for SMALL BIRDS; ALWAYS measure spacing from the center of the ShockTape rows. Up to 6" wide, install one row of ShockTape 2" (5.1cm) away from the outside edge. For 6" and wider, install additional rows of ShockTape. 3.5 - INSPECTION / ADJUSTMENTS / CLEANING A. Remove debris and waste materials from project site. B. Visually inspect ShockTape for poor adhesion due to inadequate surface preparation. Insure all Jumper Wire connections are dressed properly and secured. Remove all flat wire and jumper wire trimmings. C. Use electric fence voltage tester to insure that voltages are present at several locations throughout the installation. D. Make any repairs or adjustments to ensure long term control. Set up visual inspection schedule with property owner/manager.
