Three-Part Specifications - Copyright 2008 - Nixalite(R) of America Inc Nixalite(R) Premium Bird Barrier Strips Includes specifications for: Premium Nixalite Models S, H and W Nixalite manufactures three different Premium Nixalite Models: Model S, Model H and Model W. There is no equal to the Nixalite Premium Bird Barrier Strip Models. The following specification outline is presented in a modular format making it simple to include or exclude any combination of the Nixalite Premium Bird Control system as needed for each project. List Nixalite Premium Bird Barrier specifications in the following locations; Master Format 1995 – 10290 – Bird & Pest Control Master Format 2004 – 10 81 00 - Pest Control Devices Master Format 2004 – 10 81 13 – Bird Control Devices PART 1 - GENERAL 1.1 - SYSTEM DESCRIPTION: A. Nixalite Premium Bird Barrier Strip Models: a physical barrier system constructed of stainless steel strip and wire to prevent pest birds and climbing animals from landing, roosting, nesting or climbing on architectural surfaces. There is no equal to Nixalite Premium Barrier Strips. B. Nixalite Mounting Hardware: mounting clips and fasteners designed to securely fasten the Nixalite Premium Bird Control to architectural surfaces. Hardware is made of stainless steel or non-corrosive materials. C. Surface Cleaning System: surface disinfectants and deodorizers to neutralize potentially hazardous bird or animal waste and prepare surface for installation. 1.2 - QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Installer must obtain, review and understand Nixalite planning guides, estimating worksheets and installation instructions. B. Installer must be completely familiar with the proper installation procedures for the Nixalite Premium Bird Barrier Strip Models specified. C. Installer must be completely familiar with the specified mounting hardware and mounting hardware installation procedures. D. MUST BE MADE U.S.A. E. Must be Nixalite Premium Bird Barrier Strip Models. There are no bird spike or strip equals. 1.3 - SUBMITTALS A. Nixalite literature including: Nixalite planning guide, completed estimate worksheets and installation instructions for the specified Nixalite Premium Model and mounting hardware. B. Sample of specified Nixalite Premium Model - not less than 2” (5.1cm) in length. C. (If ColorCoat finish) Sample of Nixalite Premium Model in the specified color. D. Sample of specified mounting hardware. E. Nixalite Premium Model S installation instructions and drawings from manufacturer (if specified). F. Nixalite Premium Model H installation instructions and drawings from manufacturer (if specified). G. Nixalite Premium Model W installation instructions and drawings from manufacturer (if specified) 1.4 – STORAGE & HANDLING A. Provide storage to keep Nixalite shipping boxes dry, clean and undamaged. Do not stack or place other packaging on the Nixalite shipping boxes. B. Keep Nixalite Premium Bird Control Strips and Mounting Hardware in original packaging until needed for installation. ALL Nixalite Premium Barriers: are all stainless steel wire and strip barriers. Wires: High grade stainless steel, 0.041” (1mm) diameter, full-hard spring temper, 250,000 lbs. / in. (44,645 kg/cm) tensile strength. Base Strip: High grade stainless steel, 0.25” wide x 0.02” thick (6.3mm x 0.5mm), full anneal for flexibility, easy strip cutting and surface shape memory. B. Strip Lengths: All Nixalite Premium Models are available in 24” (61.0cm) and 48” (122.0cm) strip lengths. C. Nixalite Model S: 4” high (10.2cm), 4” wide (10.2cm) NO LESS THAN 120 wire points per foot. Full 180-degree wire coverage. For all bird species on all types of surfaces. Use with Nixalite Model W for climbing animal barrier installations. D. Nixalite Model H: 4” high (10.2cm), 2” wide (5.1 cm), NO LESS THAN 60 wire points per foot, 90 degree wire coverage. For surfaces less than 2” in depth (5.1cm) and with Nixalite Model S on wider surfaces to achieve proper surface coverage. E. Nixalite Model W: 5-1/2” high (14.0 cm), 3” wide (7.6cm), NO LESS THAN 120 wires per foot, 180-degree wire coverage. Wall mount model for vertical surfaces only. Use above surfaces less than 2” in depth (5.1cm) or over other Nixalite Models when specified. Use with Nixalite Model S for climbing animal barrier installation. F. Nixalite Soft Tip Option: Available for Nixalite Premium Models S and H. Soft Tip models are the same as standard pointed wire models with the exception of flat tipped wires. G. Finish: Natural stainless steel finish or manufacturers ColorCoat finish. H. ColorCoat: standard colors are black, white, gray, tan, brown, bronze, green and red. Choose standard color that best suits application. Custom colors available. For custom color: installer must supply manufacturer with color sample not less than 2" (5.1 cm) square. 2.3 – NIXALITE MOUNTING HARDWARE A. To be made of stainless steel or non-corrosive materials. Standard mounting hardware is supplied with Nixalite Premium Bird Barrier Models in set quantities. Hardware to allow for strip removal and reinstallation without causing damage to the installation surface, the Nixalite strips or mounting system. B. Specify the Nixalite mounting hardware that best suits the installation surface. All hardware listed is made of either stainless steel or non-corrosive materials. Optional Fastening: Custom Forms: Use custom made stainless steel form, bracket or strap to fasten bird control strips to difficult surface with limited or zero surface penetration requirements. Contact manufacturer for custom form design. Glue Clips & Adhesive: If surface conditions do no allow for the use of the SUPPLIED mounting hardware, use the Glue Clip and Adhesive installation method. Follow the Glue Clip installation instructions from manufacturer. 2.4 – SURFACE CLEANING SYSTEM A. Steri-Fab: surface disinfectant and bactericide to neutralize bird waste. Multipurpose sanitizing spray used to quickly kill disease causing bacteria, parasites, fungi, insects, etc. Non-residual product, Steri-Fab is inert after it dries. Do not use with Microcide-SQ on the same surface. B. Microcide-SQ: broad spectrum disinfectant, cleaner and deodorizer used to sanitize hard surfaces as well as fabrics and clothing. Use to kill a wide spectrum of organisms and disease causing bacteria. Do not use with Steri-Fab on the same surface. C. Microsan: anti-bacterial personal protection products to help prevent disease transmittal before, during and after working on and around surfaces contaminated with bird and animal wastes. Use to compliment personal protection equipment standards (PPE). D. All Marine Bird Dropping Remover: non-toxic, biodegradable bird dropping remover that is safe and effective for use in both marine and land applications. Instantly dissolves bird droppings both wet and dry, in or out of the marine environment. E. Stain & Odor Remover: a non-toxic, biodegradable stain and odor remover that uses naturally occurring active enzymes to remove the worst types of stains and odors. Safe and effective for both wet and dry environments. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.1 - INSPECTION A. Visually inspect all installation surfaces. Make sure all surfaces are clean, dry and free from debris or other conditions that could impede the workflow of this section. B. Notify architect of detrimental conditions. Do not proceed until these conditions have been corrected. 3.2 - PREPARATION A. Field Measurements: Verify dimensions of each installation surface. Use Nixalite Planning Guidelines and Nixalite Estimate Worksheet to make sure you have sufficient quantity of bird control to properly protect the specified surfaces. B. Make sure all installation surface finishing requirements have been accomplished before installing Nixalite Premium Bird Control Models. Nixalite to be last item installed on specified surfaces. DO NOT apply any surface coating or treatment (paint, sealer, etc.) over the installed Nixalite Premium Bird Control Models or mounting hardware. C. Remove or relocate all plants or foliage that overhangs the installation surfaces. 3.3 – SURFACE CLEANING A. All surfaces to be clean, dry and free of obstructions before bird control is installed. B. IF BIRD WASTE IS PRESENT: Treat, neutralize and safely remove all bird waste from installation surfaces. Installer must follow all city, state and federal regulations regarding the proper removal and disposal of bird droppings. C. Use Nixalite’s surface cleaning products to neutralize any bird droppings, nests and related waste materials that may be present. Allow all surfaces to air dry completely, and then reapply to sanitize and deodorize the surface before proceeding. Strictly follow treatment instructions provided with Nixalite’s surface cleaning products. D. Use Nixalite anti-bacterial personal protection products to help prevent disease transmittal when working around surfaces contaminated with bird droppings. 3.4 - INSTALLATION A. Install specified Nixalite Premium Models in strict accordance with manufacturer’s strip spacing and installation guidelines. Protect all surfaces. B. Protect the entire surface, not just the outside edges. NO GAPS allowed in the Nixalite Premium Bird Barrier Strip coverage. Cut strips where necessary to fit the surface properly. C. Wires of Nixalite Premium Models to extend over outside edge of surface by at least 1/4” (0.6cm). Nixalite Premium Model base strips to extend over any open end of surface by at least 1/2” (1.2cm). D. Fasten Nixalite Premium Models to the surface with the mounting hardware recommended by the manufacturer. Follow hardware spacing guidelines and installation procedures supplied by manufacturer. E. Nixalite Model S used on all types of surfaces to repel all types of birds. Use with Nixalite Model W for effective climbing animal control. F. Nixalite Model H to be installed on surfaces less than 2” (5.1 cm) in depth or in conjunction with Nixalite Model S to achieve proper protection on wider surfaces. G. Nixalite Model W bird control is designed for vertical surfaces only. Do not install horizontally (down flat). Use over surfaces less than 2” (5.1 cm) in depth or as recommended by manufacturer in supplied installation drawings. Use with Nixalite Model S for effective climbing animal control. 3.5 – ADJUSTMENTS / CLEANING A. Remove debris and waste materials from project site. B. Inspect finished installation. Make any adjustments needed to conform to Nixalite’s spacing and installation guidelines.
